Remote western Zambia grassland hosting Africa's second-largest wildebeest migration and the Lozi Kuomboka ceremony region.

Liuwa Plain is one of Zambia's most remote and least-visited parks, a vast grassland in the far west of the country that hosts Africa's second-largest wildebeest migration after the Serengeti-Mara. Each November, tens of thousands of blue wildebeest converge on the plain alongside zebra, eland and a healthy population of spotted hyena, all beneath immense open skies. The park is managed in partnership with the local Lozi community, whose historic Kuomboka ceremony — marking the king's seasonal move to higher ground as the plains flood — takes place in the surrounding Barotseland region.
Liuwa rewards travelers seeking genuine wilderness solitude far from Zambia's more established safari circuits.
