Remote, walking-safari-only wilderness north of South Luangwa, home to Zambia's reintroduced black rhino population.
North Luangwa is one of Africa's last great unspoiled wildernesses, accessible only on foot through a handful of tented camps that admit a strictly limited number of guests each year. Walking safaris here are not an option but the only way to explore, tracking lion, buffalo and elephant through mopane woodland and across the broad, braided Luangwa River valley. Since 2003, the North Luangwa Conservation Programme has reintroduced and protected a thriving population of black rhino, once declared extinct in Zambia, making this one of the only parks in the country where they can be found.
For travelers seeking true remoteness and an unmediated walking encounter with the bush, North Luangwa is without equal.
